Complete Refurbishment

The brief:
Back in 2019 our client, a local care home, had a vision and asked us to help.
They wanted to create a space, within their home, for residents to spend their final days with their loved ones. They wanted to provide comfort, privacy and convenience for both the resident and their family at a time when the little things really count.
The space needed to include:
- A patient area, which needed to be clinical and practical for the incredible nurses to carry out their vital work, yet have a warm and homely feel.
- An area for loved ones to sleep and eat (including preparation of food if possible).
- A separate shower / changing area.
- Storage and adequate lighting were a must.
What we did:
First, we had to find the appropriate space within the building to accommodate such a suite. After extensive investigations and discussions, it was agreed that we would utilise an existing bedroom, store cupboard and an administration area.
Structural surveys were carried out and plans submitted. After finishes and furnishings had been given final approval we set to work.
Walls needed to be removed and floors replaced together with electrical wiring and heating systems altered before we were ready to start creating the zones within the suite.
In addition to the physical walls dividing each zone, we utilised a combination of mood and task lighting together with switching between hard and soft floors to divide the area.
The complete space encompassed the following:
-Patient area with overhead lighting and emergency call system
-Lounge area with pull-out sofa bed.
-Kitchenette, including built-in appliance
-En-suite bathroom complete with enclosed shower
As is the case with most of our refurbishments, we provided a turn-key service on this project. Everything from the slippers and bathrobes to the biscuits in the jar, were hand-picked by us, leaving the space ready for immediate use.
The end result was a luxurious, self-contained suite that will hopefully provide some comfort to all those who use it, during one of the most difficult times of their life.
